Welcome

Lancaster University

Welcome to Biological Sciences at Lancaster University.

Our mission is to deliver excellence in research and teaching.

  • Biological Sciences at Lancaster is currently home to around 40 academic staff and independent research fellows, 350 undergraduates and 50 postgraduate students.
  • In teaching, we offer a range of flexible Biological Sciences degrees, providing students with a wide choice of subjects through structured themes.
  • In research, we take an integrated approach that spans the full range of disciplines, from the molecular to the community scale. We see our key strength as being at the interface between biology and the environment, where our interests range from the effects of the environment on plants and plant communities, through to environmental causes of human disease.
  • Research activity is organised within two centres: the Lancaster Environment Centre, a major international centre of excellence in environmental research, and the Division of Biomedical & Life Sciences, part of the newly-formed School of Health & Medicine.
